K-12 Prevention Programs

The Survivor Advocacy Center of the Finger Lakes offers a wide range of nationally recognized, evidence-based prevention education programs for children in grades K-12, at no cost to school districts in Wayne County and the surrounding areas.

Prevention education programs are tailored to grade-level and are intended to teach children and teens the skills they need to form healthy relationships, understand consent, and protect against sexual abuse.

The SACFL’s K-8 programs can be used to fulfill your school’s Erin’s Law requirements.

Primary School-Age Programs

Care For Kids

Using Curriculum from Prevent Child Abuse Vermont Healthy Relationships Project
Grades Pre-K – 2
6 Sessions; 30-40 minutes/session

An early Childhood Sexual Abuse Prevention Curriculum. Topics include communication skills, empathy, body parts, developing positive attitudes toward sexuality, and understanding healthy boundaries.

The program, is nationally recognized, evidence based, and fulfills all necessary NYS Erin’s Law requirements for grades UPK-2.

Elementary School-Age Programs

We Care Elementary

Using Curriculum from Prevent Child Abuse Vermont Healthy Relationships Project
Grades 3 – 6
6 Sessions; 30-40 minutes/session

An elementary-level Sexual Abuse Prevention Program. Topics include trusted adults, recognizing feelings, empathy, healthy boundaries, self-esteem, asking for permission, and body language.

This program is nationally recognized, evidence based, and fulfills all necessary NYS Erin’s Law requirements for grades 3-6.

Middle School-Age Programs

We Care Elementary

Using Curriculum from Prevent Child Abuse Vermont Healthy Relationships Project
Grade 6
6 Sessions; 30-40 minutes/session

An age-appropriate Sexual Abuse Prevention Program. Topics include safe spaces, healthy/unhealthy relationships, sexuality, sexual harassment, body language, adult support, resources, and boundaries.

This program is nationally recognized, evidence based, and fulfills all necessary NYS Erin’s Law requirements for grade 6.

“SAFE-T” Sexual Abuse Free Environment for Teens

Using Curriculum from Prevent Child Abuse Vermont Healthy Relationships Project
Grades 7 – 8
10 Sessions; 40 minutes/session

A sexual Abuse and Harassment Prevention Curriculum. Covers developing social/emotional skills necessary for sexual abuse prevention; how to identify and form healthy relationships; and introduces age-appropriate information about topics such as sexual harassment and sexually abusive behaviors.

This program is nationally recognized, evidence based, and fulfills all necessary NYS Erin’s Law requirements for grades 7-8.

I Am Little Red

Grades 7 – 8
1 Session; 40-60 minutes

A Human Trafficking Prevention Program. This program can be covered in one long session or divided into two shorter sessions. Covers concepts of vulnerability and taking advantage, introduces students to concept of Human Trafficking, provides protective information & skills. Program designed by adult survivors of child sex trafficking.

This program is nationally recognized and fulfills most of the necessary NYS Erin’s Law requirements. Pair this program with a stand-alone presentation on Healthy Relationships to fulfill all NYS Erin’s Law requirements.

High School-Age Programs

6 Sessions; 45-60 minutes/session

A Human Trafficking Prevention Program. This program teaches students about the dangers of human trafficking, unhealthy relationships, and the ways that technology is used to abuse teens. Topics include how to identify human trafficking; technology & social media safety; sextortion and revenge porn; self-esteem and gossip; victim blaming; consent; dating abuse; red flags; healthy relationships; vulnerability; resilience; available resources; how to get help; and reducing risky behavior.

This program is nationally recognized and evidence based.

Safe Dates

Grades 9 – 12
10 Sessions; 50 minutes/session

A Dating Abuse Prevention Curriculum covering dating abuse, how to help friends, gender stereotypes, healthy relationships, coping strategies, and communication.

This program is nationally recognized and evidence based.

Additional Programming for Small Class or Large Auditorium Groups

One Circle

Grades 6+
Weekly; 30-45 minutes/session

A small (4-12 students) weekly group designed for girls, boys, or mixed-gender groups in or at risk of being in abusive relationships, sexual abuse/assault, or with low self-esteem. This group offers weekly support, as well as lessons and discussions around boundaries, healthy/unhealthy relationships, self-esteem, body image, and coping mechanisms. Groups are designed as peer-led support groups and topics & discussions are chosen and driven by the youth in the group. These groups can be formed in any school upon request.

This program is nationally recognized and evidence based.

Healthy Relationships Presentation

Grades 6+
One Time; 30-45 minutes

Covers the basics of healthy, unhealthy, and abusive behavior; red flags; and where to get help. These presentations can be given auditorium-style to large groups or given in smaller class-sized groups.

When paired with the “I Am Little Red” program, this presentation can be used to fulfill NYS Erin’s Law requirements for grades 7-8.

Consent 101

Grades 7+
One Time; 30-45 minutes

Covers the basics of asking for, giving, and recognizing consent; as well as the importance of consent and what cultural messages we get about consent. Discusses consent within the context of day-to-day life, friendships, and sexual/romantic situations. All presentations are targeted specifically to the age group. These presentations can be given auditorium-style to large groups or given in smaller class-sized groups.
